So, you’ve decided to dip your toes in the water and see what Unbound students are like!

I can tell you now that they won’t disappoint.

I spent three years as a student not knowing that others existed until I heard about APEX (Unbound’s annual international student event) so I took a headlong dive and registered for my first student event…

And I have never regretted it!

BUT

If you’re not quite ready to take the plunge and meet some totally amazing students at an insanely awesome camp, then here’s the low-down on other ways you can get plugged into the community!

The simplest way you can start is online. There are several different options available to begin meeting fellow Unbounders!

ONLINE COMMUNITY:

Facebook Group:
There is a main group that has over 1,000 student members. It’s a really simple way for you to *commence stalker mode* and see how Unbound students interact. On any given day you’ll see students share get-together plans, memes, encouraging sayings, study tips, you name it!

The Forums:
A wonderful world of random polls, glitter kingdoms, debate halls, helpful study tips, the list could go on and on! Anything you can think of is probably on the forums already and if not… feel free to start a new thread!

Empower Calls:
These are the next best thing to meeting in person! Every other week there are video calls hosted from Google hangouts with a wide variety of topics for each day! It’s a fantastic way to meet students live and actually get to hear their voices and see their faces! (Except for the occasional student who just can’t figure out how to unmute themselves…)

While meeting Unbound friends online is a really great way to get started, the cherry on top though is definitely the Student Life events that go on year round!

REAL-LIFE, MEET HUMAN BEINGS, TALK TO PEOPLE, DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY EVENTS:

Engage Events:
These local gatherings are planned by student volunteers and involve sessions from the head of student life, Jonathan Brush, exciting activities, and good old belly-aching laughs! It’s a great time to really connect with other students who live in your area, but don’t let that stop you from attending Engage Events outside of your state! The more the merrier!

APEX:
“A five-day student event, created by students and for students, where you will experience the networking power of a conference, the learning opportunities of a convention, and the fun, recreation, and friendships of a college campus—all condensed into one all-inclusive, jam-packed week.” This event is held from August 17th-21st in Lake City, Michigan. It’s an experience like no other!

And in my humble opinion…

A necessary part of all Unbound students’ journey in life. APEX is a time where lifelong friendships are forged, memories are made, and lessons are learned. There are powerful speakers, awesome competitions, an Unbound graduation ceremony, talent-show, and even a new student orientation!

That’s right. There’s a specially planned new student orientation session for anyone who’s new to Unbound. You won’t be the only new person, you’ll meet your new favorite study buddies, and you’ll learn the ropes from experienced alumni and staff!

Not to mention:

GO KARTS!!! ZIPLINES!!! GIANT SWINGS!!! AND DANCING!!!

If all of that amazingness hasn’t convinced you yet, let me tell you a story:

There was once a girl who didn’t know what to do next with her life.

She decided to go to APEX in 2017 just to see what being a part of the Unbound community was like. When she got there, she found a group of inspiring people who truly cared about each other. They took the time to get to know her and showed her that even though life can knock you flat on your face, there are people out there who will come and help you pick up the pieces, walk with you down tough roads, and celebrate alongside you on the mountaintops of life!

The girl in that story was me.

APEX was a turning point in my own life and the friendships that came from it have been priceless. I wouldn’t be where I am now without this community.

So come and get plugged in! Whether or not you are struggling with school, going through adversity, or celebrating a life victory — this community is waiting with open arms for you!
